FAIREST

Fairest is a costume collection that illuminates the inner lives of the archetypal Princess, Prince, and Witch. Referencing Anne Sexton’s Transformations alongside Grimm’s fairytales, Fairest questions the logistics of a “happy ending” for these characters, now stripped of names, as they deepen and darken in their new garments. Illustrative prints, subtle deconstruction, and a muted palette parry with corsets and layering, traditional cues that help to preserve the folkloric essence. Beads bloom into deadly flowers, glinting butterfly wings; once comforting, cottons and wools constrict and weigh heavy. Beauty is goodness and evil is ugly, say the stories, but a necessary blurring of roles brings the truth closer to the surface.
